Being Young and Twenty

What’s it like to be young and twenty? What’s it like to have CP? I’ve had my share of good and bad days, and in that, I also understand how blessed I am. I recently shared my story with Jennifer. She has a site called Being Young and Twenty. Head on over there to read more of my story and to check out her site.

I want to thank her for the opportunity to share my story. Hopefully, someone who reads it will feel inspired, less alone, and will return the favor in helping another. Every little bit counts.

Blessings,

Are You Tired of Hearing The Word NO?

How many times have you been told NO regarding something? Go ahead, think about it, I’ll wait.

Having to hear no time and time again, can be discouraging, and can even have you wanting to give up. But you shouldn’t. Take this opportunity as a learning lesson. I try my hardest to look at the positive in things, and see it as the opportunity to prepare me for something bigger and better. Hearing no, is helping me to walk firmly and confidently in my purpose.

As a writer and journalist, especially freelancing, you’re always looking for new opportunities to expand your writing. I am constantly doing this. It can be very frustrating, but I am passionate and love the opportunity to write. It’s a field where you are continuously learning and developing your craft.

index2 Recently, I applied for this writing position. After completing the application process, I anxiously waited for a response. Needless to say, it was a no, and while I read the typical response “Thank you, blah, blah, blah, and good luck with your writing career,” I couldn’t help but dwell on the fact that they said no.

After having a self-reflection moment, (I consistently criticized myself for about a good 30 to 45) I realized that hearing or in my case, reading the word no wasn’t really bad. I mean, how many times will I hear the word no in my lifetime? Plenty, I’m sure, and this isn’t the last of the no’s.

As I stated, I have to look at the positives in situations like this (any situation for that matter), and realize that it’s not about the defeat (yes, it will hurt, especially if you wanted the position), but it’s what you do after that matters.

Don’t let hearing no be the defining factor of your life.

You’ll hear plenty of no’s. Use this as fuel to walk boldly and confidently within your purpose.

Is Your College Degree Actually Worth Something?

I posted a blog a few weeks back titled Oh Job! Where Art Thou? where I discussed my personal take on finding employment in today’s market. (You can view that post by clicking the title on the side of the page). This post is sort of a follow-up. I found an article today detailing the top ten college majors you might regret. (I’ll post the link so you can view it). Once reading it, I wasn’t that surprised to see that Communication and Journalism are the top two. Seeing as I got both my degrees in journalism, I can definitely understand why this is. I will also admit that like many of you, I still find myself making grammatical errors. How could this be if you’ve spent x amount of years learning and gaining experience in a field you chose to study?

All in all, I’ve come to accept that unless I can produce some innovative material, work my ass off for x amount of hours maybe even years, and don’t mind getting paid next to nothing until I gain a significant amount of credibility, I will be finding work in a completely different field.

So there you have it. Click the link below and take a look at the article.
